FAQs

  • What is Hazardous Waste?

    What is Hazardous Waste?

Unfortunately there is no definitive list available and many types of wastes are classed as Hazardous. Paints, oils, solvents, detergents and any material displaying a Hazard symbol, e.g. Corrosive, Flammable, Toxic would come under the category of Hazardous Waste. Even empty containers displaying such symbols would also be Hazardous, unless washed out effectively. Some Batteries, electronic waste and fluorescent lamps would come under the Hazardous banner.

Waste is classified by the Environment Agency - Guidance on the Classification and Assessment of Waste, a substantial document tool used to classify and assess all waste produced.

FS Waste Solutions have experienced chemists who can guide you in the classification of the waste which you may have concerns about.

  • Who can transport Hazardous Waste?

All waste must be removed by a company that has a Waste Carriers Certificate. For Hazardous Waste, the haulier must also have training to Carry Hazardous Material. This is called ADR* and the driver would hold an ADR Licence if carrying Hazardous materials. This can vary on the quantity being carried and the type of waste.

FS Waste Solutions have our own Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor (DGSA) who advises on what constitutes an ADR load.
*Accord Dangereux Routier (European regulations concerning the international transport of dangerous goods by road).
